Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Today I had time to check some other survival/gun sites I seldom visit and the reports are unbelievable.
I trust this info from some of the pro gun shop and FFL folks that make their living in the gun biz. And now it seems that all the inventory is so low they are considering temporarily shutting down sales or delay delivery for weeks. Is this SURGE in guns and ammo sales generated by 2 levels? Gun ban/restriction? OR Need some kind of protection for the potential forthcoming social chaos because of the economic problems. Just musing folks, have a good weekend. |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Went to a gun show yesterday. This was friday (work day), and middle of the day show opening. The place was PACKED, and I mean PACKED. Saw lots and lots of buying going on, but one thing really stood out for me. There were two online bulk ammo venders there, and they had multiple palets of cased ammo for sale, hundreds and hundreds of cases in each of the popular calibers. Within 3 hours of show opening, they were getting pretty thin to none in most offerings, and prices looked on the high side to me as well. It was as if the second amendment is getting repealed in January.

Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Burl, your feedback is what I'm reading everywhere across the US.
I have some good contacts at the large local gun shop/indoor shooting range. Their comments.."We're swamped!" This gun and ammo buying rush is getting real interesting. |

Over on ar15.com Larry from C-products posted yesterday that they had sold over 1,000,000 AR-15 magazines since the election.

Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Ok. Went to an Eastman gun show at the Atlanta Motor Speedway last weekend. First time there so don't have a base line but can say that the aisles were packed and if you wanted to go through you had to turn sideways. Picked up two Saiga 308s at reasonable prices. Monday the internet pages of the gun stores still had images up and inventory. By Thursday all the pics of AKs and ARs had been pulled down except for Atlantic Arms but they were out too. You had to call for an inventory check else pay a hit for cancelling later.
Today went to another Eastman show at the N. ATL Trade Center. First time ever had to park on the street because the parking lot was full. Now this is a very large mall type lot. Inside was a zoo. Never saw that many at one time. Picked up about 800 rds of 308 from private sellers. One table was asking over 9 bills for a stamped recvr MAK-90. Unreal. 7.62x39 Saigas were $699. |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Went to Gander Mountain here in Madison, WI yesterday around 1:30pm. The place was crawling with people and lots of sales going on. It took me 45 minutes just to get someone to answer some questions. Of course it's hunting season now but alot of people were looking at handguns.

Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Went to a gun show today. I swear that there were 300 cars in the parking lot of this very rural location. Inside was packed. Now, that could be due to deer season approaching, but I don't know. I heard a guy with a booth comment about how many people were there. Funny thing was that I was looking for some 9 mm or 357 ammo. Man, I couldn't find hardly any. I bought some at WalMart on the way home!!
I was pleasantly surprised at how many folks were buying long guns, though. Wish I had a grand to spend. |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
I live in suburban Detroit, and the local increase in gun/ammo sales isn't near what I'm reading and hearing about in other parts of the country (probably due to the local economy).
I go into Dick's on a regular basis to use the classic $10 off/$25 coupon, and there always seems to be one or two people in the Lodge hearing the basics of gun operation from an employee, so there is definitely an increase in new gun owners. |

In the ten years I have been going, I have never seen a show like it, and I can only imagine how insanely frantic the ammo sales were today. At least one segment of the economy is doing well... |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
I skipped the local (to me) gun show today because I figured it would be crowded. Instead went to some gun shops. At one of the shops, the guy working there told me there was a half-hour wait to get into the gun show today. Last month it was about 2 mins, which is more or less paying for your ticket and walking in. In retrospect I'm REALLY glad I didn't go.

I think 90% of Gun purchases are because of Obama. 5-7% are purchasing because they feel the end of the world is bearing down. T |

Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
My 0.02 cents :
1. Any Gun bans that go into effect under Obama will NOT have a sunset clause or expiration leading to permanently higher prices on current weapons. 2. Ammo prices are certain to rise creating the frenzy now of stock-up or be left behind to pay many times more than the current price. 3. Those sitting on the fence to make a gun purchase are doing so NOW for home defense (or else not be able to do so in the future). 4. Collectors grabbing up whatever they can NOW for fear of scarcity & super high prices later on. 5. Guns & Ammo make great American x-mas gifts !!!! :s1: |

I will grant you that the supporters of another AWB don't want to have a sunset clause. But you never know what will happen in order to get votes. Right now the Congress in general is more "pro-gun" than it was in 1994. Don't just look at what the left wing leadership of the Democratic Party says. Look at the voting records of the actual members. Democrats elected nationally in 2004, 2006, and 2008 include large numbers with A ratings from the NRA. Even if there is another AWB (which I consider unlikely in 2009) and even if there is no sunset clause, you can't then use the word "permanent" about any of it. No law is permanent. No Constitutional amendment is permanent. (Go check it out and notice how many of them have been repealed by later ones. Like Prohibition.) Any bill that gets passed into law now, we can turn around and "take back" in the future. True, inaction is easier than action but no ban would be permanent. IMO, the most important thing for the gun community is to stop with all the doom and gloom. To stop with the "it's inevitable" rhetoric. Join the NRA or other pro-gun group. Write to your Congress critters. Write to your paper. Watch what is happening in Congress. But don't just assume that "we've already lost." I haven't lost. Obama has two wars on his hands. And the worst economic crisis since 1932. Civilian ownership of military style guns is a minor issue that would only cost him some public support. He is going to need all the support he can get to try to slow down the economic bleeding and keep people employed. Now a few years down the road, then we may face the issue. Not yet. I'm not running out and buying anything at the current crazy prices. I probably have everything I actually "need" anyway but I always "want" more! Gregg |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
I beg to differ.
While it may be true there will still be some type of loophole for people to buy what they want.Granted at higheway robbery prices You mark my words: Obama is going to do SOMETHING against the gun comminty in the first 100 days. The Gubbermint is STRAPPED for cash and adding a "saftey firearm surcharge" to all ammo and gun purchases is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too easy to pass up. T |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Extreme gun and ammo sales may have started with the "fence sitters"
for any number of reasons. For folks that have a weapons/ammo cache and can appreciate the value ... I believe they were prepped before this rush and any extra gear that can be purchased now is a bonus before more price increases and shortages. Again, for a many reasons. About Obama, I think that administration is smart enough not to be distracted/bogged down with any new gun regulations... AT THIS TIME... Good luck folks |

It's all a matter of 'balance' I suppose - buying what you 'NEED' and not letting Fear get the best of you chasing everything you 'WANT' forcing you to go broke in the process..........that's not good. However, it does seem you're well prepared regardless and comfortable with your position. I'm a tad short and looking to continue to add guns & ammo as my wallet will allow.........passing up only the items that are Super Pricey, etc. Good thought provoking post. |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
what is your secret for hoarding ammo
I up my ammo buying but now I instead of going 600 rounds a week I am going though 1500 rounds 21 handguns I shoot every week just got to accept the fact that I will never be able to hoard lets hope me going though 1500 rounds a week will pay off lets hope what the guys and gals can accomplish spraying their black guns I can do with one shot ( lets hope I never have to find out) |
Re: Amazing Guns & Ammo sales
Just bought a .308 bolt gun yesterday. In my search for this I got to a few gun dealers in south central Ohio. There did seem to be more folks checking out the firearms section than if it was the middle of summer. However, most seemed to just be gearing up for hunting season. I didn't go near them during the election 'daze' frenzy.
Gun show coming up this weekend in Columbus, OH, a bit of a drive, but I'll probably end up going just to fondle some more guns. I've spent my monthly allowance for guns and ammo already, so doubt I'll be bringing much of anything home. Yesterday when I bought the rifle, I also asked the guy what he had in ammo for the .308. He had no ammo in anything for hunting, FMJ only and very little of that. Last night I thought I'd go through my inventory to see what I had in hunting ammo. One box of 150gr soft points is all I had, the rest, 5-6k is all FMJ. While that might do the job on wild bore, I was looking for something in a little heavier bullet. So, I went through my reloading supplies, I found some 150gr SP, 165gr SP and some 180gr SP. Looks like I may have to do a Midways order for some Barnes bullets or something in a solid that won't break up on impact. |
